In 2022, I dropped out of my PhD at Oxford to join Until in San Francisco.

Until is developing reversible cryopreservation systems for human organs to solve the donor organ procurement and matching problem. In doing so, we de-risk and answer key questions relevant to whole-body reversible cryopreservation while building products that help patients today.

Why It Matters

Every year, over 28,000 donated organs are discarded in the US alone because they cannot survive transport times. Patients with end-stage disease wait tethered to hospital beds, dialysis chairs, and transplant lists, hoping an organ arrives in time. And beyond transplantation, terminal illnesses cut lives short when future therapies could have saved them.

We see reversible cryopreservation as a medical technology, its principles are tried and true at small scales and widely used for In Vitro Fertilization and to help patients in cancer recovery via bone marrow transplantation. We are scaling this technology, expanding its medical reach. We are not trying to defeat death – we are building technologies that extend medicine’s promise: to heal, to care, and to hold life safely until it can continue.
